Scanning and Sending Photos

For estimate purposes a small, low resolution digital image attached to an email is fine but the actual work needs to be done on a files with a minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch) and best at 600 ppi (even larger if you want prints 2 or 3 times the size of the original).

Several options are available:

1. Let me scan the original photograph. There is no extra charge for this service. For shipping I would suggest placing the photo between two sheets of cardboard, wrap in plastic and send in a rigid envelope or cardboard box.

2. Have a reliable copy service make an 8 x 10, high quality color copy (even if black and white) and send this to me.

3. Scan the photo yourself or have it done by someone else. Transfer the image to a CD-Rom and mail this to me. Or, if the image size is less than 8MB in size you could email this to me.

  • The scan should be at a setting of 300 ppi to 600 ppi in "True Color" (even if the image is black and white). Please do not use any corrections built into the scanner such as sharpening, contrast, color correction, etc.
  • Save the image in a .tif or .psd format. A .jpg/.jpeg format is acceptable if high quality, low compression settings are used.
